AMT 70 Thunderbird

February 2020

It's been a little over 2 1/2 years, since my last completed build. Once more, a lot of things got in my way but I found a group of "East Coasters", doing a 24 Hours of Daytona build. I was able to get it "done" in 24 hours but I lost an hour, due to a family issue. It is a curbside, AMT included an insert so you could build it that way or with an engine. Building rules were you can wash the pieces ahead of time & glue 4 things to the body. I chose to glue the front & rear valances and hood.

Ready for the count down. Wheels & tires are from an AMT 62 Thunderbird.

Tamiya Mica Blue Lacquer with Future clear.

Createx Pearl White was used on the interior. I did the carpets in light blue flocking.

Wire wheels & wide whites from an AMT 63 T-Bird.

This is the done picture, at the end of 24 hours. I only got the windshield & right side window mouldings foiled & the windshield didn't fit right, after I screwed the chassis in but time was up.

I called it done but couldn't just leave it that way, so I unscrewed the chassis, finished the foiling, & glued the windsheild & back glass in.

The more I look at it, I regret using the custom headlight covers.

I used the blue glass instead of the clear.

I'm glad I decided to finish it. I can't wait for next year's 24 hour build.
